Save our Seabirds Education Programming

On Site Education Programs

Save Our Seabirds is proud to announce the offering of onsite education programs. Anyone interested in coming out to our facility for a tour, lecture, classroom style activity, field study, or media program is encouraged to contact usto set up a day and time. Oue program facilitators will work with you on constructing an informative, interactive, and fun experience for your group.

Schools

SOS has developed a program centered around the physical sciences that will incorporate the foundations of science; instruction, observation, data recording, discussion, and reporting. With thesebasics in mind we will work with teachers to include current areas of study being covered in the students home classrooms. Areas of interest are; bird anatomy and physiology, wildlife habitats, conservation, atmospheric study, flight science, and animal behavior.

Families


Families are one of the core groups that come in and visit SOS on a daily basis. We are currently working to put together family days that would include fun activities in which all members of the family can participate. Keep watching this section for updates to this program. We are also offering free scheduled tours for families. All we ask is that you call ahead to schedule your personal tour.

Bird Buddies!

SOS's own parent and toddler program. This Mommy and Me style program will be a fun and educational adventure packed with activities and creative learning. The classes will be held on Thursdays @ 11am and run for approximately 1 hour. Due to our lack of an inside space these programs will begin when the weather gets warmer. March 18th at 11:00 am will be the first class day. Please bring a mat or towel to sit on. Class size is limited so please call ahead to confirm your spot. 941-388-3010.

Fee $5 per parent/child pair.

Community Organizations

SOS would like to host your organizations next trip. We have space available for approximately 30 people to come and meet or have lunch. We also would like to share with your organization some of the background of SOS, the residents here, some of our current work.

Spring/Summer/Winter Camps

Wondering what to do over spring break or winter break? SOS has an opportunity for students ranged from 10 to 12 years old to come to one of our mini camps. The first will be held from March 30th to April 1st (no fools day jokes here). The fee for this camp is $30 and will be due by the first day of camp. The camp will include a daily schedule centered on the work done here at SOS. From learning the ins and outs of wildlife rehabilitaion, to working together to create an installment for our education center, the students will become part of our organization. When finished they will not only leave here having accomplished something but will leave something behind a contribution to help educate others.Camp size is limited so please contact us to reserve your spot.

There may be future installments of the mini camp comming in July and December. Pleasae check back here for more information regarding the July and December camps.

Fee $30 for the first child and $25 each additional.

Informational Tours

All of the above programs have the opportunity for guided informational tours of our facility. Also if all you are looking for is a short visit the guided tours are a perfect fit. Come see our Birds of Prey, Shorebirds, Seabirds, Cranes, and Tropical birds including Macaws, Cockatoos, and other wonderful parrots.
